Villa Verde Italy

A summer full of festivities

The party season starts in June and continues until the end of October. Especially between mid-July and mid-August, there is a party going on somewhere every weekend. Many events take you back in time, to the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, complete with knights on horseback, falconers, historical theatre performances and authentic food of the time. What once began as celebrations around the harvest has now grown into a rich tradition where every opportunity is taken to gather and enjoy.

Enjoying local flavours and traditions

Food and drink play a central role during these festivities. Everywhere you will find stalls with ‘prodotti tipici’, local specialities proudly presented. The squares transform into open-air restaurants, where long tables invite to shared meals. While enjoying music, art and theatre, you will be fully immersed in Italian hospitality. Sitting down among the locals and enjoying the flavours of Le Marche is an experience you will not soon forget.

Historical spectacles and unique traditions

Around Villa Verde, there is an abundance of special events. For example, in the first week of August, Fermo hosts the spectacular Palio dell'Assunta, in which ten city districts compete against each other in a thrilling horse race through the city's narrow streets. Also in San Ginesio and Loro Piceno, different districts compete against each other during the local Palios, where tradition and competition go hand in hand.

One of the fun festivals we have attended ourselves is Castrum Sarnani in Sarnano in August. This medieval festival immerses visitors in the atmosphere of the past with crafts, games and impressive parades in historical costumes. Flag waving, archery and pole climbing provide entertainment, while street performers and artisans fill the streets with lively scenes. Of course, all this is accompanied by an abundance of delicious food and wines. Don't be alarmed by the locals walking up with unusual masks.

Loro Piceno and the Vino Cotto festival

Our own village, Loro Piceno, also comes alive during the summer months with numerous festivities. One of the highlights is the Vino Cotto festival, dedicated to the special Marchigian drink made from boiled grape juice. This artisanal speciality, not a dessert wine but a refined digestif, will be generously poured during the feast. Visitors can enjoy tastings, live music, art and craft demonstrations, while the attractively decorated squares invite long evenings of conviviality. On the last evening, the feast concludes spectacularly with a magnificent fireworks display. This feast often took place on weekends around 25 August,

For us, it is a tradition to be present in our house during these festivities. Have a house in Loro Piceno and miss the party? Of course you can't! We also look forward to it every year and always go to the village every evening to experience the fun and listen to the bands playing in many places and, of course, to dance and have a drink with the locals.
