The beginning
Over the years we have visited many regions, but each time the rolling hills, quaint villages and delicious food of le Marche attracted us the most. Like so many dreams, ours arose on a balmy summer evening, over a good glass of wine and a plate full of local delicacies in the atmospheric streets of Urbino during the Festa del Duca.

Villa Verde: dream comes true
Once we got the keys to our dream spot in Italy, we could start realising our plans. Villa Verde had been bought with inventory and household goods. Among the many furniture and accessories, we found beautiful gems that deserved a second life in our design. But first a thorough tidy-up was in order.

Project swimming pool
When we bought Villa Verde, we also made plans for a swimming pool. So in addition to renovating the first floor, where a rental flat would be located, we immediately started applying for a permit for the swimming pool. This was no unnecessary luxury, as we soon learned that such a permit could take weeks if not months, unfortunately.

Vespa road-trip
In between all the work of cleaning up, chores, gardening and furnishing the flats, we also try to relax and do fun things. So we promised ourselves to do “nothing” a bit more often during the August 2024 holidays. This time, we chose to go out on the Vespa. Vespa Tour Marche rents out scooters from the village of Loro Piceno that you can hire for the day.

The magic of parties
Le Marche buzzes with festivities all year round, but it is during the summer holidays that the region really comes alive. A range of events, from intimate village festivals to grand medieval spectacles with hundreds of extras. These festivities, better known as ‘Feste’ and ‘Sagre’, are a celebration of traditions, culture and, of course, delicious food.

Ascoli Piceno - lost in time and taste
We wandered through streets of golden stone, lost ourselves in scents of savoury fried olives (olive Ascolane) and let time loose in a square that felt like a dream. As soon as we drove into town, we knew we had arrived in a special place in this part of the region.

Abbadia di Fiastra - near Villa Verde
Near Villa Verde just a few kilometres away you will find the Abbadia di Chiaravalle di Fiastra. Built in the 12th century, this monastery is today one of Italy's best-preserved abbeys. The complex combines religious architecture, nature and culture, making it a popular destination.
